What it covers

What is custom signage?

Custom signage is anything built for a specific site, brand or idea instead of picked from a catalog. Our other service pages cover the common categories. This page is for the projects that do not fit neatly into one of them, or that combine several.

  • Dimensional site letters set at an entrance, a park or a development
  • Feature walls with your values, history or logo in dimensional letters
  • Apartment and property signage that ties identification, leasing and amenity signs together
  • Covered structures like pavilions and pergolas that sit alongside signage at a community
  • One-off pieces for a specific event, sponsor or space

Process

How does a custom sign get made?

StepWhat happens
1. The ideaYou send a sketch, photo, description or architect's drawing
2. Site and brandWe look at the location, the materials around it and your brand files
3. DrawingsYou get drawings showing size, materials, colors and lighting to approve
4. PermitsIf the piece needs a permit, the approved drawings go to the city or county
5. Build and installThe piece is built to the approved drawings and installed

Nothing is built until you have approved the drawings and the written quote.

Cost

What does a custom sign cost?

Every custom piece is priced on its own drawings. The main drivers are size, materials, lighting, how and where it is installed, and what permitting the site requires. Send us what you have in mind, even if it is rough, and we will tell you what it takes and quote it in writing. All work is warrantied.

What to send with a quote request

  • The property address, so the right city or county and zoning district can be identified
  • Your logo as a vector file (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF), or brand standards if you are a franchise or national tenant
  • Photos of the building, entrance or wall, plus a wide shot from the road
  • Whether the sign needs to be lit
  • Any landlord, HOA or property manager sign criteria that already apply
  • Your real deadline, such as an opening date or move-in
  • A sketch, inspiration photo or architect's drawing

Where do we install custom signs?

Our shop is at 709 Miles Jamison Rd, Suite 2, Summerville, SC 29485, and we work across the Charleston metro: Summerville, Charleston, North Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Goose Creek, Ladson, Hanahan, Moncks Corner, Johns Island, James Island, Daniel Island, West Ashley. If your project is somewhere between the towns listed above, call and ask.

Who approves a sign depends on the parcel, not the mailing address. Our guide to business sign permits in Summerville covers how the Town reviews signs, and each location page covers that area's city or county process.

FAQ

Custom sign questions

What counts as custom signage?

Any sign built for a specific site, brand or idea rather than picked from a catalog. That includes dimensional site letters, feature walls, apartment and property signage, and covered structures like pavilions, as well as anything that does not fit neatly into our other categories.

Can you build a sign from a sketch or an idea?

Yes. Bring a sketch, a photo of something you like or just a description. We turn it into drawings you can approve before anything is built.

How much does a custom sign cost?

Every custom sign is priced on its own drawings. Size, materials, lighting, installation and permitting drive the number. Send what you have in mind and we will quote it in writing.

Do you work with designers, architects and developers?

Yes. If your designer or architect has already drawn the sign, send the drawings and we will quote to them, or point out anything that will be hard to permit or build.

Do you only make signs?

Signs are the core of the work, but our gallery also includes covered pavilions, a pergola and community mailbox structures. If you have a project that sits between signage and site structures, call and ask.
